A visitor adds your product to their cart but doesn’t complete the sale.
Imagine if you could reach that visitor anywhere on the Internet and remind them about your product… so they would complete their purchase. Imagine how many lost sales you could recover…
It’s reality. And it’s called retargeting.
What is Retargeting?
Maybe you visited an ecommerce site and saw ads for those same products displayed while you were browsing news sites or something else and wondered how those ads got there? That’s retargeting.
Retargeting places a tracking cookie on your site visitors and allows you to segment the visitors based on their behavior on your site (visited certain page, add to cart, complete sale, etc.)
Then on any site with Google Adsense you can serve those visitors targetted ads to get them to come back to your site. These “retargeting ads” usually have high ROI (2x – 8x) because you are only targetting people that already expressed interest in your products.
And now you can even retarget to your visitors when they are browsing Facebook (but more about that later).
How To Start Your Visitor Retargeting List Today In Google Analytics
FYI Google calls retargeting, “remarketing” but they are the same thing.
You will need Google Analytics and Google Adwords accounts.
Create a list for All Site Visitors with duration 180 days (the maximum allowed). Select your linked Adwords account.
And now your site visitors will be added to your Google Remarketing list so you can later target them with a display ad campaign. Google needs a minimum of 100 visitors on your list before you can serve ads. I would recommend you have at least 1000.
How To Stalk Your Visitors on Facebook, Google, Bing, and everywhere else.
30% of all US Ad impressions are on Facebook now, but up until recently only big brands like Nike could use Facebook’s retargeting features.
Now anyone can retarget on Facebook using Perfect Audience. Just signup for their free trial and install the tracking code. Your retargeting list will start building right away and you can wait until any time in the future before serving ads to the list.
I’m sure you’re already thinking about how your ecommerce site visitors will see your product ads while looking at pictures of their friends cats and remember to purchase your products.
And not only Facebook, Perfect Audience also allows you to serve ads on the Google Display Network, Bing, OpenX, and many other ad networks. That means you can reach 95% of the entire internet.
So you could target past customers and notify them of a new product launch… and they’ll see your ads while browsing the latest news on Huffington Post. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination and the ROI potential is huge.
So why aren’t you retargeting already? You’ve got lost sales to recover.
P.S. If you want to do retargeting but don’t have the time to set up the targeting, tracking, design banner ads, etc… I offer a retargeting service to do it all for you.
